This is particularly useful since palpation tests for stress fractures are unreliable in the hip region due to the large amounts of overlying soft tissue¹

Patient positioned in supine¹
Stethoscope placed over pubic tubercle¹
Tap ipsilateral patella¹

(+) Lack of sound propagation indicate femoral neck or pubic rami fracture¹
